Light Industry is industry which produce very low pollution potential for air pollution, noise, vibration, odour, fire or explosion. Light Industry does not involve the use of hazardous raw materials or production of hazardous products. The emission of wastewater for Light industry factory must be very low amounts and not causing pollution to the surrounding. 

Hazardous solid waste is not allowed and the scheduled waste shall be minimal.  Buffer distance for specific processes or polluting sources which are difficult to control effectively may require greater buffer distances. Actual buffer is to be determined by modeling studies where necessary.

To establish a Light Industry factory in Malaysia, the business owner must first obtain the necessary licenses and approvals from the relevant authorities, including the Business License and Manufacturing License. The location of the factory must also be compliant with the zoning regulations set by the local government. Additionally, the factory must adhere to environmental regulations and comply with the standards set by the Department of Environment (DOE).

Buffer zones differ according to the manufacturing activities conducted within the industry zoning itself. Below are some activities examples listed under Light Industry.
